Darwin Award just around the corner

Monday, July 7th, 2008

What’s the most relaxing way from Oregon to Idaho? Of course, in a lawn chair surrounded by lots of balloons. Kent Couch - no, I’m not going to make a joke about lawn chair and Couch - sat down and lifted off.

From the BBC:

“I’d go to 30,000 feet if I didn’t shoot a balloon down periodically,” he said.

In addition to the blow pipe and air gun he took a pole to pull in balloons, a parachute, some GPS equipment and some eggs and chocolate.

Using a BB gun to control your altitude? Sounds like a great way to achieve a Darwin Award!

Evil Knievel’s Bike

Robert Craig “Evel” Knievel, Jr. (October 17, 1938 - November 30, 2007) was a motorcycle daredevil and a household name since the late 1960s, and arguably the most iconic motorbike stuntman of all time. Evel Knievel’s highly publicized motorcycle jumps, including his attempt to jump over the Snake River Canyon, claim four of the top 20 most-watched Wide World of Sports events of all time. He enjoyed a lengthy career in this extreme sport despite suffering a series of major injuries during stunts.” - Wikipedia.org

Ferrari Crush
“Apparently there is a problem in Thailand with the illegal smuggling of sports cars into the country. To prevent “car laundering”, the brilliant Thai government decided it was a better idea to destroy these cars to show the importers a lesson, instead of auctioning them off and using the proceeds to fund important programs to help the poor.”
