Recent things

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Sorry for the lack of recent updates. The past few weeks have been pretty packed and the upcoming weeks don’t look any better. Some things didn’t and won’t work out the way they were planned. On the other hand other possibilities are just around the corner. Realizing what you love to do in life is more important than a shortcut to some random goal you have set for yourself. But maybe that’s just me…

5D Mark II

While I was at Photokina last week I was particularly interested in Canon’s new 5D Mark II and Nikon’s D700. Both models are currenlty in line for an upcoming upgrade in my backpack. I don’t have that many Canon lenses, so I could make the jump to Nikon with only a minor loss.

I played around with the new 5D at Photokina for a while and having worked with the original 5D I have to say, it just feels the same. Obviously Canon has done many improvements but at the same time kept many things that were already known from the old 5D. I’m looking forward to getting the D700 in for testing in a few weeks. But back to the 5D and its 21.1 Megapixel sensor that makes it Canon’s second camera with this sensor size. The first one was and still is the EOS 1Ds Mark III. (more…)

First glance

Today I had the chance to have a first look at Photokina’s inner workings. I’m an editor at the show working with one of the few HD stations in Germany, and no it isn’t Premiere. That being said I decided to walk around the show floors to have a sneak peak at some of the booths.

Google Street View cars in Cologne

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Got this image via the internets. I ran across one of Google’s cars a few weeks ago (could also be 1-2 months). Looks like it can’t be too long until we see a german version of Street View.

Bewildered

Last tuesday I spent a rather long day in Berlin. Actually it wasn’t exactly Berlin which made the day long, it was – again – Cologne and its black hole called public transportation or short KVB. Coming out of the plane at Cologne airport – by the way: that pilot must have been mental – I went directly to the trainstation. Of course I didn’t really think about the train timing here, as they are just always late, but that’s the Deutsche Bahn and we’re kind of used to it. In the end the train came 10 minutes too late. The signs at the stations didn’t show this, even two Bahn workers who waited for the train looked suspicious at the dark tunnel. A quick look at the iPhone app that has (allegedly) every station in Germany showed the 10 minute late-ness.

If you ever come to Germany and own an iPhone get the Fahrplan app from the App Store. If you’re going to Berlin also get the Berlin Trip Planner. This one even searches for nearby stations. (more…)
